This province is the important point of the economic center in the middle of Vietnam, and a crucial transportation node with the North.
It can be said that Ninh Thuan is like a pan, covered by mountains from 3 sides (North, South and West) and concave in the center. The other side of the province is a long seaside with the length of 105km. The weather in Ninh Thuan is quite extreme with a lot of wind as well as hot and dry atmosphere during the year. There is no winter here, and the average temperature is often higher than 27o C. Moreover, this is one of the aridest places in Vietnam with a total rainfall of 705m a year. Normally, the rainfall is concentrated in the rainy season from September to November. The dry season from December to August barely has any rain.
The population in Ninh Thuan province is not as high as other provinces, approximately 535,000 people. In addition, the province’s population is various with 28 different ethnic groups, but Kinh and Cham have the highest number of residents. Cham people in Ninh Thuan have preserved many traditional aspects of their culture such as architecture, textile, language, festivals and beliefs. Furthermore, they still keep the matriarchal system which means the women are respected more, and have all the rights to decide family affairs.
Po Rome Tower
Po Rome Tower was built in 17th century on a high hill in Ninh Phuoc which is 15km far from Phan Rang Borough. This is one of the biggest tower of Champa people, and also the last of the Champa Kingdom. The special point about this tower is that it was not created to worship any god in the culture of Champa, but King Po Rome, a famous king that is considered a god, and his queens. Annually, the Cham people here still come to the tower on their holidays and when rites are performed.
Compared to other Champa Tower, the design of Po Rome Tower is less delicate and extravagant in terms of decoration. The tower and its decorations are mostly created by bricks. It has 4 floors, including one main floor and the three roof floors. The main floor has an eastward main entrance, decorated with a Siva God Statue and fire symbol. The other three sides of this floor are engraved with the local Gods in sitting positions. The three top floors have the same structure with a small tower on each corner that is decorated with a stone lotus and flame.
Ca Na Beach
This beach is located near the First highway and is 32km away from Phan Rang Borough. This place is one of the most attractive tourism destinations in Vietnam with a combination of many types of tourism such as ecotourism, cultural tourism and food tourism. The scenery in Ca Na is magnificent with the clean, blue sea, covered by the white sandbank and the mountains at the back. The atmosphere in Ca Na is also fresh and cool that makes the visitors feel comfortable and refreshed. Furthermore, the night-time on this beach is awesome, especially when there is moonlight. The sound of the wind and waves are mixed to become a harmonic song that cannot be forgotten.
Ca Na is also fascinating with its cultural attractions. A large number of Cham people still live here, and they still preserve many traditional elements of their culture. Therefore, visitors can learn more about the history of Champa Kingdom and understand more about the culture of Cham people in Vietnam. Moreover, the beach is a paradise of seafood with diverse kinds of fresh and tasty species; hence, travelers have the chance to taste the dishes that they might have never eaten before, which makes this place even more unforgettable.
Nui Chua National Park
This is an ecotourism destination that visitors should not miss when travelling to Ninh Thuan. This park is one of the largest natural conservation points in Vietnam with an area of over 24,300 ha. This place has a diverse system of creatures that are typical to the tropical dry forest and cannot be found in any other parts of Vietnam. According to scientific researches, it contains 664 kinds of plant and 201 species of animal, including many rare species that are nearly extinct. In the recent years, Nui Chua National Park has been conserved and recovered to create a suitable place for the rare creatures.
This place also attracts tourists with many attractions on Da Vach Mountain that run along the beaches. One of them is the Treo Lake on the top of the mountain. The lake has a diameter of 80m, with blue water all year round even though it is located in one of the driest areas in Vietnam. After visiting the relics on the mountain, visitors can also spend time on the beautiful beaches on the 40km-long seaside. They can play along the beaches or travel around on a glass-bottom boat to witness the beauty of corals underneath. Moreover, they can visit Hom Beach, a natural breeding ground of some rare turtles on the East sea.
